Roleplaying at Ruby-Con!
Posted by James Graham on
Leisure Games has always been synonymous with roleplaying games, and for our 40th anniversary convention we will have a breakout room dedicated to RPGs.
As the purpose of Ruby-Con is to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital, we ask that people wishing to participate in our organised games to donate to our appeal.
Kicking off at 11am, we have two games organised in advance which are open to attendees to participate in:
The Surrey Enigma (Call of Cthulhu): It is a Wednesday in July, 1923. For months there have been vague rumours of witchcraft in Surrey. At first they were ignored, but now the press has begun to take an interest in the affair.
The owner of a disreputable but popular weekly newspaper has hired you to investigate', and you've spent the last few days trying to find some hard facts.
Call of Cthulhu is the classic horror roleplaying game, based on the mythos cycle of stories by H. P. Lovecraft. Suitable for 3-5 players, the Keeper will be Fabio Vollono.
The Black Robed Mage (MiniBX): The sellsword Glimea has recruited you to help investigate the disappearance of her rash friend Dagen who has gone rushing off into the wilderness alone to investigate rumours of a strange black-robed figure who has been sighted in the caves north of the town of Cherryford.
As newcomers to town this is the perfect opportunity to explore the surroundings and ingratiate yourself with the adventurous types of the town. Perhaps you'll even discover the truth about the wizard in black.
MiniBX is a minimalist hack of classic Dungeons & Dragons. Suitable for 3-5 players, the Dungeon Master will be Rob Carnell.
- We will also have space for people to run their own games, and will have a collection of story games available for you to try in our games library, including Fiasco, For the Queen, The Quiet Year and The King is Dead. These games can all be played with no prior preparation required.
"The Surrey Enigma" is a classic Call of Cthulhu adventure by legendary roleplaying adventure designer Marcus L. Rowland. The adventure originally appeared in White Dwarf issue 69, which is also the issue that Leisure Games' opening was announced.
By cosmic coincidence, this is also the issue in which Fabio Vollono, the Keeper (Gamemaster) for this scenario at Ruby-Con, also appeared, in the "Tabletop Heroes" column in which readers submitted their painted miniatures. Take 1D6 SAN loss for contemplating the infinite improbability of this example of serendipity!
