Hurtgen: Hell's Forest
A prequel and addition to the Wacht am Rhein game that can be played alone or as part of expanded Wacht am Rhein scenarios. Includes scenarios for September, October, and November plus a campaign game. Two maps, seven counter sheets.
Also known as the Hurtgenwald "meat grinder." The longest battle on German ground during World War II, and the longest single battle the U.S. Army has ever fought in its history. Battles took place between September 14, 1944 and Februari 10, 1945, over about 129km2 on the German side of the Belgian-German border. The Germans defended fiercely, using the defensive terrain of the mountains, forest and Westwall (Siegfried Line) defensive positions to the maximum, as this location was the staging ground for their Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge). After this battle ended inconclusively in December, with over 60,000 casualties (33,000 US), the Germans launched their surprise counter-offensive into the Ardennes.
Using the scenarios from Hell's Forest, you can play this battle on its own, or use them in combination with Wacht am Rhein to play a full campaign from the prequel to the Battle of the Bulge, right through to the end.
